Terms of service
Plain language, no surprises. Here is how Utsawa works, what you can expect from us, and what we ask of you.
Last updated 2 July 2026
This is a launch draft written to be easy to read. It is not legal advice, and it may change before general availability. If something here matters to you, please reach out and we will talk it through.
1. The service
Utsawa is a tool for building trilingual celebration websites in English, Sinhala and Tamil. It handles guest RSVP, multi-event and multi-ceremony scheduling with per-event timezones, per-household magic-link replies, offline-first RSVP capture, and day-of check-in, using culturally-correct presets for Sinhala Buddhist, Tamil Hindu, North Indian, Nikah, Christian and Secular celebrations.
These terms are an agreement between you and Utsawa covering your use of the website, the builder, and any published sites you create with it. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them.
2. Accounts and your responsibilities
You need an account to build and publish a site. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide, for keeping your login details private, and for everything that happens under your account.
You must be old enough to enter a binding agreement in your country. If you set up a site on behalf of someone else (for example a couple or an organisation), you confirm that you have their permission to do so.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Utsawa to create, host, or share content that is:
- unlawful, or that infringes someone else's rights
- abusive, harassing, hateful, or threatening toward any person or group
- deceptive, fraudulent, or intended to impersonate someone else
- malicious code, spam, or anything that disrupts the service or other people's use of it
4. Your content and ownership
Hosts own their content. The names, stories, photos, guest lists, and everything else you add to your site remain yours.
To run the service, we need your permission to work with that content. You grant Utsawa a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, back up, reproduce, and display your content, and to make the technical changes needed to show it correctly across languages, devices, and your custom domain. This licence exists only so we can operate the service for you, and it ends when your content is removed, except for copies kept in routine backups for a short period.
You are responsible for making sure you have the rights to the content you upload, including any photos taken by a photographer.
5. Payment
Paid plans are a one-time payment per occasion, not a subscription. Payments are processed by Dodo Payments, which acts as the merchant of record for your purchase. Prices may be shown in LKR locally and USD for the diaspora.
A paid plan gives your site an active window that runs through your event date. After that date the site archives gracefully, so your content is preserved rather than deleted, and there are no recurring charges. Any refunds are handled in line with the policy shown at checkout.
6. Availability and no warranty
We work hard to keep Utsawa running smoothly, but the service is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. We do not promise that it will always be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of delays, and we may occasionally need to pause the service for maintenance.
To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind about the service, whether express or implied.
7. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Utsawa is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses arising from your use of the service. Where we are found liable, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us for the occasion in question.
Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under the law that applies to you.
8. Termination
You can stop using Utsawa and close your account at any time. We may suspend or end access if these terms are broken, in particular the acceptable use rules, or if we are required to by law.
If your account ends, we will make a reasonable effort to let you export your content first, unless doing so is not possible or not permitted.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product grows. When we make a meaningful change, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let you know. Continuing to use Utsawa after a change means you accept the updated terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction to be confirmed], and any disputes will be handled by the courts of that jurisdiction. We will finalise this before general availability.
11. Contact
Questions about these terms are welcome. Write to us at hello@utsawa.com and we will help.
